Wife showing interest in getting another vehicle... . I am trying to convince her to go Diesel (does not want a pickup) but now I can't find any that are available for purchase.

The internet car shopping services all list the VW's as no longer in production. Maybe it is a model year thing. . ???

Anyone know a definitive list of cars available in USA that run on diesel??

Trying to search the web just dumps you into lists from Europe. #ad

You can get new VW's and Mercedes with diesel engines for sure, and possibly an Audi too. Audi and VW are owned by the same company and share a lot of components, engines included. Mercedes has by far the widest selection, but as you know they are very pricey. I have not seen a new Volvo diesel in quite a while, but they made a lot of them a few years ago. I don't know of any resource that will tell you who still makes diesel cars for sale in the US.

As of now, VW is the only manufacturer selling a diesel passenger car in the US. Anywhere else on the planet, a turbo diesel is available in everything!

mercedes benz is available as we speak even in california, you do have a choice also as to what size car do you want.

Go with the VW. They have the Golf, Jetta, and Beetle in the TDI. They are a little hard to find in some area's and in the color you want and are not discounted at least here in the NW. I get 47 to 50+ mpg with excellent power and comfort.

Volvo still offers a diesel too...

Gotta make you think about the kind of service you'll get from the clowns in the monkey wrench department, though, with so few diesels out there.

A lot of hype has been given to the TDI's in the VW's. There was an article in Sundays local paper saying they are the only diesels offered in auto's in the US at this time. The BENZ, Volvo and BMW sites do not show a diesel of any kind for the 2001 modle year... CJ

That and emission regulations (Tier II) that have been promulgated for what gasoline engine cars are technically capable of achieving. #ad

I have a 1998 Jetta TDI and am consistently getting around 55 mpg commuting. I have recently gotten as much as 60 mpg on a tank (703 miles on 11. 7 gallons of diesel fuel).
