Can anyone give me a recommendation for a diesel-compabible thread sealer? I am going to be installing my FP gauge soon using the tube from Geno's and I'd like to seal the threads on both the injection pump and the sending unit.

I realize this is a VERY simple question (like "how do I tie my shoes"?) but this is a great source for not just technical information, but also for "this is what I like to use" information.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

You'll get lots of answers, but many of us in the oil patch have used Permatex #2 non-hardening gasket sealer to seal against petroleum products for many decades.

By the way, I wouldn't use any sealer on the banjo bolts. The banjo washers perform the sealing function there. I only use sealer on the NPT threads.

Another good product is "Gasolia Thread Sealant" from Federal Process Corp.

Thanks! I picked up Permatex #2 for my diff fill plug yesterday, so it's already in the toolbox. I'll check out the Gasolia as well.

JRihani,

When I had trouble getting a fuel line to my in-line auxiliary lift pump to quit leaking, I finally cured the problem with blue LocTite. I have taken that fitting apart since then. It wasn't too difficult.

Thats a relief for me. I just fitted a new relief valve for a hydraulic thumb I stuck on my excavator and had to use blue loctite on a few fittings coming out of the back of the valve b/c I couldn't keep them from leaking (due to clearance issues and a large number of fittings to get from I believe 4mm (maybe it was 6) up to 1/2" NPT, if anyone's worked on kubota miniexcavators before the 3 series came out, they know what I'm talking about... ) and I've been mad at myself ever since for taking the easy road instead of fabbing another mount for the valve body.
