I am not a mechanic

I kind of over engineered the mounts. With the engine putting out 1250 lb/ft stock, and 400 HP, I am a bit concerned that those two little mounts in the rear taking the torque and the weight.
 
Spent the new years working on this, and I am tired. Tired of cutting out rivets and huck bolts that GM thinks are a great way to put a truck together. Makes it tough to take apart.



Here are a couple photos of the engine sitting in.
 
In order to get the cab to valve cover clearance, I raised the body 3" using the body lift bushings I bought off ebay. Here is a sample shot, and then a photo of the truck with the cab 3" taller, does not look bad. I need to add a filler strip on top of the diamond plate tank covers to fill the gap.
 
Now for my goof: Mounting the engine low in the chassis for better clearance, and to mimick the centerline of the old CAT, now the pan is hitting the tie rod. I will research, as I have a shallower sump pan, but it is a composite one, and I don't care for them in the case of road debris. I will either notch the pan here, or change to a different one. .

I have a GBFH, but I think a plasmacutter, and tig it back in will likely be the trick.



Some of the ISC oil pans are smaller in capacity, and shallower sumps, but I kind of like the extra oil... .

I looked at that, and we use the same pan, just a different suction tube, and swap ends with the pan.



Then the pan hits the axle,, too. I will do the "chop and channel"... .
 
Is the tie-rod top mounted? If it is you can straight bore the knuckles and use crush sleeves to bottom mount it. The only draw back would be no axle protection for it.

Good thought. I have thought about putting a drop section in the middle. I have seen some that way, but do not want it too low.
 
You could get the guy that does your dragster chassis work to fab up a steel pan that looks like the RV composite pan...
 
Scott, I was wondering if the tie rod ends bolt into the knuckles with the nut on top or bottom? If the FE is like the older GMs, you would be putting the TR at the lower portion of axle, this would exclude any 4X4, off road, rock climbing you may need to do. :)

Scott, have you settled on a transmission yet? I saw mention on an earlier post of a 9 or 10 spd. Also the turbo size, how does it compare to some of the bigger B engine turbos? Can you use your existing intercooler? That intake looks huge! Thanks, "NICK"

Yep, having a 9 speed Eaton/Fuller non-synchro built right now, to my specs. It has a LARGE overdrive ratio, and with the tall rear gear in the truck, let's say that 100MPH in cruise will not be out of my reach. In direct (8th gear) it will cruise at 75 MPH at 1900 RPM. Just right.



The turbo is a VG, and is a bit larger than the VG we use on a ISB EGR engine, but still only has a 3. 5" exhaust outlet. I am planning on the same intercooler and radiator, and while both will be a bit small compared to what I would do from a pure engineering standpoint, I am going to try it. I think that with the low GVW I will be pulling, they will be fine.
 
Weekend Update:



Here is what the pan looks like after moving the motor mounts (again) 3" to the rear. Plenty of room.
