Why doesn't diesel fuel evaporate as fast as gasoline?

Because diesel is basically an oil, and gas has light distillates that evaporate easily. Gasoline is designed to easily become a vapor in the combustion chamber to facilitate the spark combustion process.



That's my answer in laymen's terms anyway

Diesel also would not smoke in billowing clouds from your pipe if it was full of the distillates that gasoline has, what tragedy that would be (unless you mixed it with 2 cycle oil to help it "lube" correctly).

Mainly due to it's high (125 plus or minus degrees "F") flash point

Which I believe is a consequence of a relatively low vapor pressure.
