Because diesel is basically an oil, and gas has light distillates that evaporate easily. Gasoline is designed to easily become a vapor in the combustion chamber to facilitate the spark combustion process.



That's my answer in laymen's terms anyway :)

Diesel also would not smoke in billowing clouds from your pipe if it was full of the distillates that gasoline has, what tragedy that would be :D (unless you mixed it with 2 cycle oil to help it "lube" correctly).
