around here in Connecticut most of the gas stations require you to "pay first" before you pump your fuel. However, if you go to the diesel pump it will start right up without having to pay the cashier first! We must be an honest and trustworthy bunch of drivers! Perhaps they figure with a loud truck you can't sneak off without paying... ... . (Of course in these places the diesel pump is seperate from the others and dosen't have a credit card slot in it)

Odd now that I think about it. It may have to do with the fact that they somehow figure that most diesel consumers during peak times are that of commercial duty. Therefor the must go inside for reciepts , house charge ... etc. ??????? That juuust may be the excuse to reduce Pump Cost ???

How many of you guys fill your tanks, then pull ahead to get out of the way of the next guy, then go in and pay? I see lots of folks just leave their vehicles by the pump when they go in to pay, thus blocking access to the next guy and causing a backup.

Did it ever occur to you guys that they think anyone dumb enough to buy a stinky noisy truck is not smart enough to steal from them?;)

I think the reasoning behind it, is they feel the diesel is so slow there is little threat of a drive away. Plus they feel like even if someone was to take off with out paying, they could just follow the trail of smoke.

Yep, I LOVE "Pay at the pump". No lottery line, nobody counting pennies for a 99 cent pack of cigarettes, no rude cashier.

Also, for people who do go inside to pay, make additional purchases, ect... As mentioned before, PLEASE have the courtesy to pull forward first!

The station I go to has gas pumps on one side of the building and diesel on the other, the two other sides are for parking to go inside (very small lot). 50% of the time I go there some retard in a gasser is parked in the diesel pumps so then I have to wait for them to buy their lottery tickets and smokes before I can fuel up. I usually glare at them when they come out for being too lazy to walk the extra 15-20 feet if they parked on the side of the building where they belong. If they pull in and I need to be on that side of the pump I usually try to park in front of them so they have to back out, my little way of saying thanks for making me wait. I've always thought about parking in the gas pumps when I go for a coffee but just can't bring myself to do it.

At the Speedway station in Dexter, MI the 'car diesel' pump WAS the only 'pay first' pump. That's why I never stopped there. When Pilot took it over they changed that.

As a rule, that pay 1st BS generally pisses me off. I almost ALWAYS fill up my vehicles so how am I supposed to I never know how much the exact amount is going to be? Besides, I like to lock the nozzle and let it fly whilst I check the oil or clean the windshield. I'm a backwoods hick that used to going places in neighborhoods where nobodies gonna steal everything that ain't bolted down, so I'm used to doing it that way!

Wanna tick off the attendant at a "Pay First" pump station?

When you give them your money ask for a receipt.

Then tell them when they look at you like your nutz, " You treat me like a thief by making me pay first, How do I know you're not going to steal my money? I want a receipt. "

Good one. I really try to stay away from prepaids they are a real PITA. I drive for a living and need a receipt for bussiness. Have you ever tryed to get a receipt that shows gallons on a prepaid. I like to track gallons used.

No pre-pay around here. You can choose plastic at the pump or inside at many locations. The others are simply pay inside.

The truck stops require a call in before pumping. They have my ticket ready by the time I get to the cashier

When I lived in Seattle area, I would purposely overpay so I could go back in and get a receipt for the actual fuel fill plus my change. This was for the gas hole stations that required pre-pay. It must have helped convince those stations to add plastic at pump.

I think pre-pay is a sign of the company you share in your neck of the woods.

One station I occasionally stop at, when you use credit card, the pump will only let you have $35 worth of fuel. When my p-joke company vehicle is almost empty I can shoot $35 easy, then you have to reset the pump and get another reciept. I usually forget then remember when the pump stops! They say they do that for when people get there card stolen a person will only get $35 in one transaction:rolleyes: like they can't just reset like I have too!
