Any more news on the Jeep liberty/rescue diesels?

What will happen to the quality of the diesel fuel when the new low sulfer fuels come out in 2007. Will the BTU value still be the same for #1 and #2 fuels. I understand that there may be problems with the lubrication of the fuel pump as well. Will they put additives in the fuel or what?Is it time to sell my 1999 and go back to gasoline?I,m in Alaska and thanks for your replys

I think that if you run a quality additive you won't have any problems. Lubricity is the only issue I am aware of with the new fuel specs.

Gentlemen

The quality of the EPA grade diesel when the ULSD (Ultra low sulfur diesel) is introduced in Jan of 06 should be better if you own a later model (2nd gen and later) or at least those injecter pumps that were fitted with the revised oil ring material. This is due in part to the fact that the diesel #2 should have a slightly higher cetane rating due to the removal of Aeromatics from the fuel during the Hydrotreating process in refining.

Now I live here in So Cal and we run an entirely different grade of diesel the (CARB) or California Air Resources Board is the cats meow of diesel due to it much higher cetane rating of 56 +/-. When I travel between here and Wa st I sure can tell the difference when I get into Oregon and start running the EPA blend that they sell in Oregon which runs a Cetane rating of around 45+/-. The motor idles much rougher than when running the CARB blend though power and fuel econmy are the same.

So other than a lubercation issue with some of the older model injecter pumps the new grade of diesel should be a welcome sight for us diesel owners. The introduction should clean up some of the soot and particulates associated with diesel exhaust as well as a smother running motor as far as #2 goes the diesel#1 should get the same benifits.
