when did the 1st gen diesel come out

$$$$$$$$ dat's all folks!

#2 same as home heating oil. Big fine if you are caught with the red stuff in your tank. Troopers know when they see a bit too much smoke and it kinda makes the exhaust smell different too. So I heard anyway.

As far as the premium I think it's bogus. Also recall somone saying it may not have the lubricity our injection pumps require.

Don't try to fool yourself into thinking it will help increase power/mileage. Stick with the regular fuel - best bet is find a busy truck stop and stick with them, they usually have the freshest fuel as they pump the most.

On page 24 of TDR issue #36 there is a good article on diesel fuel and additives, check it out.

Premium diesel is higher priced, as it is supposed to have a higher cetane number, kind of like higher octane in gasoline.

Also a number of other factors like BTU content, lubricity & detergent abilities.

I usually buy #2 diesel and put in my own additive(Power Service,Standyne or Howe's).

The only difference in red fuel is that it's red. No more smoke and no different smell.

Premium diesel fuel is not a regulated standard. Sounds like around the country some premium fuel is not what it is in other areas. Up here, Cenex Roadmaster is a very quality diesel fuel with a high cetane for a few cents a gallon more. They have there own refineries. Here is what is in Cenex fuels: http://www.cenex.com/default.asp?item=6A60B18E-515F-4763-A4B6-C40391A007A3

I have also heard good stuff about Amoco Premire Diesel fuel. We have a refinery here and its straight #2 is 47 cetane but not a single additive.

I only add additives (Stanadyne PF) when temps below -5F for gelling. Run Roadmaster #2 yearround. Over 15,000 gallons burn through my 96 so far.

My uncle said I could fill up at his farm tank. This stuff was red as I watched it go in the tractor. It was tempting but I turned him down as I didn't want to chance getting caught on the road with this red stuff.
