diesel generator problem

i've been working on an isuzu c240 diesel engine that smokes a whiteish blue, and runs like crap, we did a new pump and injectors and still the smoke, we compression tested and the compression was anywhere from 300 to 320, new fuel filter air filter and new fuel, the oil is WAY sludgy. do you think that there is a bad seal on one of the valves or am i missing something here. changing the timing doesn't seem to help either. any one have any idea's? all help apreciated.

how's the smoke under load? what is the water/oil temp when the engine is smoking?

Is it easy to start?



Water in fuel?



Low fuel supply pressure?



LEaky return lines?

Return lines leaking into oil?

smokes the same under all temps, starts fine after i warm the glow plugs. not sure about load, the biggest load i could put on it was a 110v mig welder. the return is good, its a p-pumped bosh. i will check the pressure and let you know. new fuel and filter. and see if i can get more load on it.

If I can use any of my vehicular experiance here, I would say that it is not getting enough air (white smoke), and is burning some oil (blue smoke).





Is this motor N/A, supercharged, or turbo'd ?



Sounds like it has alot of vacuum in teh intake and could be suking oil past a valve. If you can get rid of the restriction... maybe all will be well...

its N/A, i thought about that too, and i pulled the air filter and its brand new, i will look further, it doesn't have a fuel shut off valve it has an air cut off, i'll look into the intake further.
