I've been around these tractors for years. Even assist in building them and have yet to see one come apart. I souldn't be surprised, it's and IH :-laf

You have to remember that "we" think 35 psi is good boost. If you have a three charger engine and make 35psi something is very much wrong. Also, it's common that the engine block where the crank throw is, is cut away

It's not the first, for sure. It happens. Diesel supers put ALOT of stress on the block. I've seen it happen once. It was an Agco, about 5' off the line. Bad thing was it was the first run on a new tractor. You got to see it to believe it!

I don't know what it is. It's most likely a IH DT466. Anyone count the number of chargers. In Ohio, we use three on the "super series"

Very impressive. I saw an Allison in a pull tractor come apart once. Real crowd pleaser but hard on the old wallet. I wonder if anyone has to tell the driver to pull his visor down on his helmet after that one.

It may be a 436 block, but I'm sure it's probably 540". Most supers run3 or 4 chargers, some run two. I've seen a blanket off an allison turbo the came apart. Pieces went through 17 of the 18 layers of a kevlar blanket!

diesel go boom

Heh thats my ol buddy Dan Thomas from Cambridge New York (NYTPA) Yes that tractor is one running SOB! Just to let you know he was back running two weeks later with donated sheet metal and $20,000 less in his check book! You guys ain't seen boost numbers like them boys run(200-230psi) The pumps are $15,000! Dan runs diesel and a four charger 436CID (THREE STAGE) THEY LEAVE THE LINE WIDE OPEN AND TURN AROUND 5000-5500 RPM! They run a water injection system to cool the pistons and make steam for hp. HP figures are around 3000 to 4000hp. The guys that convert diesels to run alchohol run lower boost but make more power 5000-6000HP.

I saw him run in Greenwich right after he blew it up, I've always loved the Washington County fair and the smokers, those guys put on a pretty good show.
