was in indiana this week and went to fill up at a station advertising $2. 64 for diesel, got to the pump and price was 2. 84 screw that, i went to another station about 30 miles down the highway $2. 71 on the sign, @2. 89 at the pump, see a sign at the semi truck inlet saying cars pickups and rv's go to the car pumps for diesel semi's only. wtf the trucks get cheaper fuel and the vehicles that dont tear up the road are stuck paying more for the same fuel. what gives? i have not seen this anywhere else. #@$%!

They just label it on the signs differently. In Indiana (Michigan too - don't know about other states) trucks pay their road taxes seperately from their fuel purchases. So they are still paying the same it's just paid in a different manner. In Indiana the signs are advertised at the truck price which doesn't have the road taxes in there.

You can fuel at the truck pumps - I do it all the time. But they'll add the taxes back in at the register so you'll pay the same price anyways. When you fuel at the truck pumps in Indiana you have to call in your truck number - you just call in and say "private sale". Then they'll add the taxes to the fuel price when you pay. Your really not paying any more, you just need to take into consideration that the price you see advertised you need to add the taxes in. Like I said above they are still paying the taxes, they are just paying them in big lump sums instead of at the pump. Up here in Michigan the trucks pay less than the advertised price because the fuel taxes are taken out.

small world ...

i was at our local truckstop, Wilderness Plantation Inn Exit 105 I-79, yesterday and pulled up to the truckstop and pumps had $3. 01 on it ...

sign said $2. 94 ...

went in and asked and the girl told me the 2. 94 was at the CAR pumps across the road at the restaurant ... (same truckstop)

drove 90 yards across the road and sure enough ... 2. 94

poor truckers don't have the option as they won't fit at the car pumps ...

never seen anything like it ...

that sucks wonder if i could fuel at the truck pumps? or would they run over my little vw?

You probably won't be able to fit the nozzle in the filler pipe, if they have the barb on it to keep it from falling out of the tank.

BTW, most of the truckstops in Indiana give the "exempt trucks" price (like Flying J). That price is less 6% IN state sales tax, which trucks w/ICC numbers don't pay. Stations (in Indiana, at least) can't surcharge you for using a CC/Debit, but they can DISCOUNT cash transactions. Whoever came up with that law ought to be shot for stupidity, since the REALITY of the situation is CC/Debit card transactions are paying more than cash and for good reason, given the current credit/debit card transaction fees. It's all semantics.
