I have about 1000 miles on my 2001 Ram 2500 diesel. I have noticed a diesel drip. It doesn't appear to happen unless the rig is running. I've scheduled a visit to the dealer on 12/26.

Is there any risk involved in driving it until then ?

Is this a normal problem ?

What may be causing the problem ?

I also have experienced a transmission problem. Yesterday, the automatic shift in Drive gave me a "clunk" when the trannie shifted between low and second rather than the normal smooth shift. It hasn't occurred since. I will ask the dealer about that too. Has anyone else exerienced these problems ?

I don't run an auto transmission so I can't be of much help there but one thing you might want to check on the diesel drip is to make sure that the water drain valve on your fuel filter is not the source of the leak. It may be as simple as needing to open and close the fuel filter water drain valve to make sure that the valve is properly seated off.

bihly, welcome to TDR

I don't think it will harm your truck to drive it if there is a small fuel leak. As far as a safety issue, you are fine. Of course gas is a different story. That is one of the niceties of diesel, it is very difficult to get it to light or catch on fire.
