I had a intermittent diesel leak that ended up being due to a filter box leak. I am using the Fleetguard 7 micron filter and was just about ready for my annual oil change (AMSOIL don't you know) when I noticed the leak. The lid to the filter was tight and a swap to a new filter fixed the problem. I am still on the OEM lift pump (have a spare ready), but was surprised what appears to be a backed up filter didn't show other problems first.

Just thought I would share as I was afraid this was a bigger issue.

He's referring to the canister in which the fuel filter fits.

Here and there over the years there have been discussions about the plastic filter lid cracking either from overtightening or perhaps too many thermal cycles.

I had a similar issue.

Completely overlooked a cycle on the fuel filter and had 20K miles on it.

A week previous to me realizing this, I noticed some dripping and traced it to a drop on the banjo fitting at the bottom of the filter canister. Thinking that the fitting was loose, I snugged it that Friday. Monday morning I remote started the truck. When I walked outside I saw a puddle about 1' square and a stream of diesel coming down from the same place. Before I could get to the truck, the engine quit.. Not knowing what was going on, I guessed at a loose cap. When I got the cap off and pulled the filter it was like solid creosote. Luckily I always have spare filters in the shop...
