My sister's 2000 (6 speed) is acting funny and need to locate a good mechanic near Starkville, MS. Anyone have some recommendations?

The symptoms are a sudden loss of power like you let off the go pedal completely when going down the road in 6th gear. She says if she downshifts it acts normal and comes back up to speed and then she can get back into 6th and not have any problems again for a while. It is not consistent as to when it acts up.

The truck has an Edge EZ on it and is otherwise pretty stock (has in-tank fuel pump). I've told her to remove the Edge and see if it still acts up. It does have a full gauge compliment (boost, fuel, EGT) and she says those look fine when it happens. Any other ideas are welcome!

Thanks,

WOT

I have a good friend in Florence that runs Mopower. He is a good guy and better mechanic. That is the only shop i know of . His # is 1-601-260-3158. His name is David Sills. Randy

Rattler,

Thanks, for the response - 2. 5 hours from Starkville, but might come in handy when she's traveling in that area.

Might have better luck over toward Columbus... not much of anyhing around Starkville... at least there wasn't a few years back when I was in the area.

Yeah, it seems like there is not much in Starkville but Miss State. At any rate she pulled the fuel filter and there was sand in the canister (2nd time in a month). I'm guessing the gauge is not on the VP side of the filter (can't remember how I installed it now) so maybe it was getting chocked and the sand shifted and it was ok again. She is going to take it to the dealer and have them drop and clean the tank.

Thanks

I think you should see how the sand got into the filter, Is the top of the tank open to the air? could a hose be the cause of the infiltration . Or did some one put the sand in the filler pipe . Has she a locking cap. ? Just some thoughts. Ron

Update - She took it somewhere and they dropped the tank and cleaned it out. I guess there was quite a bit of sand so she went ahead and had them replace the in-tank pump just in case it was hurt by the sand. (They also changed the filter)

After the clean-out she did have more power loss trouble and this time it threw a po216 code - not good. I think she got a bad tank of fuel that not only had sand but also water as she has been fighting WIF (lots of draining) for a couple of months now. The injection pump only has 11K miles on it (1. 5 years old). I think the insurance company will cover it which helps. She did just purchase a locking cap just to make sure someone didn't purposely put the crap in the tank.

So - for the injection pumps, anyone know any good shops within about 3 hours of Starkville? She's willing to drive a was for to find a good Cummins shop.

Thank guys.
Bob
