Something Different To Look At

It does look sharp. Hope it does not turn into another Hayes diesel motorcycle hurry up and wait. That Hayes diesel motorcycle has been placed on hold to the public for a few years now.

.

I did not find any info on the drivetrain manufacturer. The turbo diesel would be fine for that type of work as long as it had a turbo cool down feature. The only time I see our "Law Cars" turned off is when they are out to lunch. The K-9 units run for 12 hours straight. The turbo would most likely survive if they ran synthetic oil. I'm guessing around $50k decked out and that won't win any bids.

I would like to know if any Mercedes diesels are running in a severe duty app? I miss my old 5-cylinder.

That is nice. . the "E7" now if they would just let the guys get rid of the scum. Reckon that thing has a scum scrubber device lol

IMO, never going to happen. Might get a few out there, but no way will they be able to cater to all the different departments needs.

About a year ago I asked some deputies what were their thoughts on the new charger. Most wanted to remain with their old crown vics for as long as possible. I hear that the larger city run shops are tooled toward the fords and it would not be cost effective to change brands. If they were to offer a 5 year bumper to bumper warranty it may have an impact.

The Crown Vic is out of production and now they are getting some age on them. Several people I have talked to in law enforcement say that a factory built car like this would be cheaper to buy than buying a bare bones car, then having to add all the accessories (lights, sirens, radios, radar, etc). I love the thought of it. It will be great to have another USA manufacturer of vehicles, and unlike our "big three", at least this one believes in diesel power! For the police/sheriff/highway patrol, the real choices will be between the Charger and this new car. No doubt the diesel will have many advantages. I don't believe the turbo will be an issue. I have seen MANY abused Federal Express and UPS trucks, where the driver comes in, damn near wide open, jams on the brakes, shuts off the engine, loads or unloads, then jumps in, cranks it and hammers it wide open again. The engine would not see nearly that kind of abuse in a patrol car, but would have a lot of idle time, where the diesel would be a great advantage.

I just noticed: the "media contact" number is a "404" area code. That is Atlanta, Georgia. I have heard a few times on the news that there was a new car company starting up to specifically supply the law enforcement needs.
