Caterpillar ACERT 6.6L - Why not?

looks like ford is doing something about the 7.3 cam sensors

Post #152 is BRILLIANT! And what a great speller too!

I would love to see a diesel Charger/300 available with a diesel in USA. I want a new, quality rear wheel drive, inline 6 diesel car.

They refer to the current life of a police car ending @ 75k.

Here is a ist of 7 Crown vic's ranging from 200k to 227k miles on the govdeals website from Mobile AL.

I am not a huge Ford fan but I would like to own a new Dodge Charger PI for answering resque calls. Being a volunteer fire fighter I'll see if I can meet the regulations for a non-profit organization. Just donate enough money to cover the cost of the Police Interceptor to the Fire dept. and get a major tax deduction. I donated a 93 chevy truck to a church last year and it paid off 10 fold.

~$35,000 will buy you a nice used 2005ish Mercedes-Benz E320 CDI (24-valve, I6, common-rail - mmmm... tasty!).

I'd do baaaaaaaaaaad things to own one of those. :D

Is it true the Mercedes gas engines are balanced. One of my first memories of a Mecerdes is a 1965 280 SL. It idled smoother than silk.

In 1991 I bought a 73 280 4-door. I-6 with a massive 4-bbl on the side. It had been sitting up for almost 2 years. I tuned it up and then proceded to burn the rear tires off. For $ 165 I really enjoyed it. Sold it to a used car dealer for $550 6 months later.

Driving 58 miles to work I am looking for something diesel to run the interstate . Prefer a 240D manual. Would settle for a turbocharged E-class.

I have no idea about the Mercedes gasser engines - never bothered to research them.

However, the OM606. 962 (3. 0L, 24-valve/DOHC, I6, IDI turbo diesel) is naturally balanced as is every other I6. As to whether or not the recriprocating assembly is balanced like a lot of folks do when they rebuild them, I'd venture to guess that it is probably pretty darn good close as it is. These engines are VERY durable and have rev limits around 5500rpm.

I've included some pictures of an OM606. 962 (built by our friends in Finland) in various states of disassembly.

Yes - I will own an OM606 someday - no doubt about it.
