WTB NEW Truck, advice and input desired

I don't know if this subject has been covered but I was wondering what people were paying for diesel compared to gas in their areas. Here in Hawaii diesel is about $1.50 more a gallon more. Can't seem to get an explanation on why this is. Is it the same for others. I'm not asking what your prices are, as they will vary greatly, just what the difference is.

Seems excessive.

In my area (Ontario, Canada) diesel fuel is slightly below the price of gas in the summer and slightly above in the winter. Their reasoning is supply and demand due to heating oil.

I'm currently in central Florida where regular gas is selling for $1.71 per gallon and diesel fuel for $1.99 per gallon.

It runs between thirty cents and forty cents here in Beaumont area and is on the higher end of the spread a few miles North of here. Diesel is a little heavier than gasoline so I guess they are charging you extra shipping charges. bg

Diesel is once again, finally cheaper than gas in my part of California; about $1.81. For than last 7-8 years, diesel, has been higher than regular 87 octane gasoline.

I filled my truck up last night and the difference between gas and diesel was $0.20 with diesel being higher, I paid $1.73 a gallon last night. My wife filled up her Jetta TDI at the same station but in the afternoon and paid $1.77 a gallon. Prices are changing daily and sometimes within hours here in IL.

Wow that is quite spread. Here at least the last few months it has been 10-30 cent spread. That spread goes either way though. Just day before yesterday I filled up here by my work and it was 1.68 diesel and 1.78 gas. Then when I got home passed by a station and it was just the opposite. This morning there is a corner I pass by with three stations 1.95, 1.85, 1.75 for diesel gas was lower at all of them by 20, 6 and 6 cents respectively.

In North Texas diesel runs about the same as mid-grade unleaded gas. I filled up last week for $1.59/gallon. What's interesting is that when I bought my truck in July of 2003 diesel was $1.38/gallon. It bounced up and down for a couple of years, then when Katrina hit diesel went above $2/gallon and never came down again until the summer of 2008, when it dropped back to about $2/gallon. Over the last 8 years I've paid as high as $4+/gallon when traveling. So now 13.5 years later I am paying about 20 cents per gallon more than when I bought the truck. Thank you oil production on private lands and a messed up OPEC for an oil glut! Just imagine what the price would be if we were still kicking it with old school diesel instead of the highly refined diesel that is currently mandated.

I suspect that is probably what was behind Barrys killing the Keystone pipeline and all the hoopala about fracking. bg

Around here, diesel is Mercedes fuel.
Probably in Hawaii too, that should explain why the price difference.

Diesel can be had for $1.60 & up. Regular is $1.45 & up.

$1.50 difference seems excessive.

I agree, that seems a bit excessive. Here there's a difference of $0.50. Diesel is higher priced. But it changes usually around a two-week period. There was even a time when it changes every week.

Both gas and diesel have gone up around 25 cents a gallon in the past week and a half. Gas buddy to the rescue.... spent $440 stockpiling gas and diesel I bought in Golden Valley Az this week, just got in from my second trip about an hour ago ! Paid $1.469 for regular and 1.699 for diesel, hopefully lasts a bit !

About the same here, gas up twenty to twenty five cents, diesel not so much except on the freeway. Gas was $1.51 and diesel $1.63 yesterday. bg

I checked diesel prices Tuesday night in anticipation of getting some yesterday. $1.69 Tuesday night, Wednesday at lunch time $1.86.

Has oil shot back up that I didn't hear about or is this just Spring Break price gouging?
