A little bit of smoke.

they've been doing that for years for off road equipment [dozers, graders... ] but now they are getting into the truck market with them... that is good... i liked the 8 speed one... :D

Yes, I recently picked up a copy of that new "Diesel Power Magazine. "

Way too much "Banks Power" exposure in it for me!!

I found the following very interesting:

"The common rail system can deliver injection pressures as high as 23000 psi, but Britt noted that 'we're finding we're not having to go anywhere near that, which is an added bonus in terms of reliability and durability'".

That's from Tim Britt, technical project leader for the Tier 3 QSB series (evolution of our ISB).

It just goes to show you: put a pressure box on your common rail engine and you will reduce it's life and reliability.

I also found the fuel line routing from the injector pump to the filter and back again pretty interesting (see page 66). Looks like the injector pump incorporates a low-pressure pump that filters the fuel before it's sent to the main pressurization chambers.

I wonder if the 6. 7L QSB might ever make it into a pickup truck?

Did we get off topic

Back to the CAT auto transmission article in Diesel Progress. I espcially liked the fact that the PTO is on the torgue convertor housing. I just love the fact that the PTO on mine is on the x-fer case after all the gears.

Caterpillar transmission are 6 or 8 speed auto trans for there C11,C13 and C15 engine up too 625 hps. I can't wait too test one . The trans models are CX31 is the 6 speed and the CX35 is 8 speed.
