Anyone know of a good shop in this neck of the woods? Every time I go to this one shop here, they give me a load of crud like this:

"Well, there's really nothing you can do to those old body styles except change the air filter. "

???????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

bgilbert: you're right, but as new as I am to this, I'd like a helper.

Evan: Monroe is a bit out of my way, but when I need something done, that's where I'll go.

thanks.

At least he's in the same state as you, I have to go clear to Indiana or Ohio to get help... ... yeah I'm talking about you Bill, and Scott, too. Or Canada for for the Pastor's blessings. ;) Round here, I get guys that ask me if I put a cummins in my truck  , apparently dodge didn't start equipping trucks with cummins engines until 1994.

Helper? Thats what the TDR is for!!!

right again!

You're right, too. But still, Monroe is 3hrs away. It's further than it sounds.

Your best bet is to join NWBombers. http://www.nwbombers.com/forum/index.php

I've heard about them. A guy that worked across the street from me had a BIG sticker in his window; and it sounded like a heavily mod'ed truck. I noticed they hove their annual meeting in Feb. Unfortunately, I have other plans that weekend.

What are you wanting done?

I'm at the beginning so, everything… Seriously, I just want to go to a shop that at least knows what is and isn't possible. Whether thay can do it or not is secondary, because at least they can tell ME how to do it. If I went to this shop and said, "Hey, I'd like to get my fuel cone modified," they'd probably think I was nuts.

Give them a call---my father has done business with them going on 30 years. I have no idea what their workload is at the moment or if they can take on your truck, but usually they're up front about it.

They are a Bosch authorized service center, and have been a player in the "hot rod diesel" world before it was cool. Mostly heavy trucks, but they work on pickups, too.

Longview Diesel Service in Longview, WA is another shop that makes some horsepower.

I've had stuff worked on by both shops before moving away from home, and my dad is a regular customer of both. Good people.

The other places are good, but I doubt they have the knowledge of VE pump capabilty like our Old Smoky does. 609 HP on #2 only isn't bad, is it? Heh heh...

Go over to the Bombers site and search posts by "hdm48. " He's got a set of our new injects in, and he gave a full writeup!

How much power are you going for, anyway? This is going to determine which route you take. VE power can be made, it just takes lots of finicky adjustment... Patience is a MUST. :D

Short term is just getting everything running fine. I want a shop that knows 1st gen, so when I take it in for the many things I can't do (yet) they don't scratch their heads. Power will have to wait for funds; although I read here about a number of 'free' mods.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations.

The NWBombers have a Bomb party on Feb 4th. This would be a great time to learn alot and meet some great people. Every Generation of Ram is usually at these events.

I second or third the recommendation for DDP in Monroe. They also have an inhouse dyno to verify any power that's been added.

I've read about Old Smoky on this website, especially about his air filter box. Is the box available on request, or is it a custom thing? Are their other Old Smoky designs?
