did anybody else read "Diesel Surprise" in the Wall Street Journal on Friday?

They granted that diesels are more efficient but said that they are not enviromentally friendly and too expensive. Also said the epa is going to force diesel makers to produce diesel that is 15 parts sulfur instead of the current 500 sulfur. This will cut down on soot. :(

any thoughts?

Ultra low sulfer diesel is due out next year if I am not mistaken. Adding 2%-5% biodiesel makes up for the sulfer loss and adds better lubricity. I'll have to check that article out. Clearly he/she doesn't subscribe to our forums Oo.

a quote from the article:

"a typical small gas engine emits 3 grams of polluting particles per thousand miles driven; a comparable diesel traveling the same distance emits closer to 43 grams"

They did say that they are getting quieter and more powerful, but they really hit on the ford saying that it was put out lots of soot ( a ford putting out soot?) and was noisy.
