There is a protective metal shield that is attached to the inner side of the fuel tank. Part of it has come off. Actually it was dragging under truck and I had to rip it off. This metal looks like it shields the heat generated from the shafts / exhaust from the side of the fuel tank. Do I need to worry about getting this reinstalled any time soon. I am guessing it may heat the fuel up some and cause the fuel to become hotter than normal. On the road right now. Thanks for your help. Donna (2007 3500 dually pulling 27' Airstream TT)

I think you are on the right thought line. However, if the truck goes into regen mode maybe then you need the shield. Just my thoughts on it. I would drive it if needed but would try to cob something together sooned rather than later.

I think you will be fine, more than likely its just there to protect the fuel tank from something getting spun up from the drive shaft.

TXRAM: The drive shaft doesn't make any heat. Regen mode can make a considerable amount of heat. If this shield is in fact part of a heat shield I would get the truck to a dealer ASAP and have them replace it under warranty.

I have now had a chance to get back on line and read my replys and want to thank everyone for their advise. I have been worried while on the road and will head to Alvin Dodge tom AM to get this taken care of. I brag about TDR to every Dodge truck (diesel) owner I get a chance to talk to, you folks are great. dj
