Have a 92 Cummins, and a question. What is the difference between heating and diesel oils. Both are #2,and my oil bill even says #2 dyed diesel. I know about the taxes and the reason for the dye,my question is:for my information only, and not getting into the legal issues, could someone run their truck on heating oil without any problems, and are the fuels the same,or are additives added to diesel. I'm not saying I would, but this arguement has been going around at work for some time now,(gas vs diesel vs heating)and no one ever has the final answer. Thanks,Stan

I accidentally had to fill my tank 3 times #ad
with heating only and the advantage noticed have been a better balanced checkbook. Disadvantages noticed, none so far - Knock on wood. Others I have heard about seem to need to change the fuel filter more often but I change every 10,000 without problems.

Stanw,In reference to your #2 fuel oil question, off highway (boats ,agriculural, etc. use this "tax exempt"fuel. I am told this fuel has a higher sulfur content, thus the cheaper price. This off highway fuel is illegal to use in road trucks,as I have been checked at scalehouses with our work trucks! The bottom line is I have notseen a difference in performance or maintenance with either fuel.
