You got it! I had the CEO of the Florida Petroleum Marketers Association call me back last year after Katrina. I had asked him if their was a valid reason why diesel would go from being 8-10 cents less than regular to being ten cents more than premium in less than a month. He point blank said "No sir, you're gettin' gouged!" In fact, he said that generally, most retailers are (were) getting gouged as well. He said that the refiners and distributors get in cahoots and hold the price up because they know that FEMA, the Guard, and clean up crews are mainly using diesel. Now, I don't think that's the case anymore. I see the prices change overnight around here now. My guess is refiners are piling on 20-50 cents on every gallon of fuel they're selling and now the retailers in many cases are trying to squeeze in a little extra margin as well wherever they can. This CEO guy did say one very interesting thing and it was that Biodiesel was coming sooner than we may think and he expected it to be big!!!
