I have a 1996 3/4 ton 5 spd. I told my friend with a 1996 1 tom 4x4 dually auto his engine was 185 HP and mine was 215. What diff. creates that delta and is it mainly because of the auto trans?

Lots different

There used to be a comment on the Cummins site when these trucks were still fairly new.

I believe the engines have atleast the following differences: P7100 pump, injectors, pistons, harmonic balancer.

3 out of 4 right JJW-ND. The pistons are the same. I have heard that the injector pumps are different but after who knows how many upgrades both 96 stick and auto have the same injector pump part #'s. Harmonic balancer is different because of the stick/auto and the injectors do have a different part #'s. In fact back in 97 BD was selling 30 hp increase injectors for the auto's and all they were were 215 remans from Bosch. :D
