Title says it all. What was changed on the engines from 2004 to 2004. 5? Rason I am asking I am wanting to put one of the power boosters on my truckand can get one for a really good price, but it is for a 2004. 5 and I have a 2004
The box probably won't work. The 2004. 5+ trucks have the injectors fire 3 times as opposed to 2 for the '03-'04 models. That was done for EPA stuff. The newer models also have an electronically controlled wastegate, whereas you and I have a mechanically controlled one. There were some head modifications, in tank transfer pump, ect. Plus the wiring harness is different, I believe.
I'm sure I'll forget some things but someone else will pick up the slack.
Larger Intercooler.
Better pistons.
Better valves.
Bigger turbo.
3-stg injec event
More Hp.
More Tq.
4" exh from turbo to tip.
Heavier built exh manifold.
I believe the valve seats are different too. More heat resistant.
I just recalled,. . the TDR magazine,. . I believe the Jan 04 or the Mar 05 edition had the complete blow by blow difference. If someone has that and can help us out.
Tag,. . someone elses turn. But that's most of it.
That was actually the only strict requirement when I got my truck, it had to be the 04. 5 or I didn't want it, everything else was second. In hindsight, it probably didn't matter, I'd a' bombed it too!
