I am looking to buy sometime soon a 3rd gen. CTD and I have read somewhere that there is some differences between the power ratings or fueling systems on models 03 & up to 04. 5 and the 04. 5 to current production models. Did they change the fueling systems or computer? Which one has the most power and responds to bombing easier and cheaper? Please respond, because your opinions will influence the models I look for.

between the 03. 0 and 04. 0 ho engines were the same, for 03. 5, the ho could be had with the slushbox... there were minor changes in the interior between the 03 and 04. laramie went to silver trim instead of wood trim in 04, and the steering wheel changed a bit for the cruse control buttons.

The 03 had three versions a Cali Standard Output 235hp a 48-state Standard Output 250hp and High Output 305 many of the Autos from 2003 are the Standard Output because the new 48RE didn't come out till past mad year.

In 2004 they got rear headrest in the Quad Cabs and a new steering wheel and the light group appeared. In 2004 the plug for the block heater became extra.

If I were buying right now I would get an 04 HO and try to find a new one left over on a lot.

04. 5 got a Kitty and run hotter and seem to pay a couple mile a gallon for it.

If buying used ask plenty of questions there are some strong Cummins and some weaker ones. Check for the 70MPH drone/vibration and find out what mileage it's really getting.

Even though the 2003 was the first of the Third Gens there is no good reason not to buy one. 03's have more aftermarket boosters at this time and without the kitty a little more room for power upgrades.
