Difference between 3rd gen and 2nd gen turbos?

What is the actual difference in aftermarket turbos for both generations of dodges? What would you have to do if you wanted to run a 2nd gen style turbo on a third gen truck?



Would it just take a 2nd gen exhaust manifold, downpipe, and intake elbow thing prior to the intercooler tube?

Just had this done to a used 3rd gen HTT turbo I bought. I sent it to HTT to be rebuilt, and had them change the turbine housing. The down pipe flange is different. Had them install a housing that would be a direct bolt up to the HX40 downpipe.

just thinking out loud here, but do the 2nd gen trucks have the funky downpipe elbow that the 3rd gens have?
