I drove my uncles 98. 5 quad cab the other day. My truck is twice as loud inside. So it got me wondering if the factory did something different with sound insulation. Outside of the trucks, there is not much difference in sound levels, so its not the motor making the difference. If anything, I thought his 24v might be a tad louder.

Did they change anything else with the cab? Besides the dash and extra doors.

I am going to kill some of the loudness soon. I like the Cummins rattle, but my wife and I have to raise our voices to have a conversation. Quieting the cummins would quite some of her complaining to. If I could get my truck to have the same noise level as my uncles stock 98. 5, I would be happy.

i would get a hold of greg long (lsfarm). he has sound deadning stuff he sells and it works great, i have been in his truck and have to say that it is by far the quietest cummins ive ever been in (not including the cr) you wont be dissapointed by his stuff.

I noticed that as well. At work we have a 97 and a 99. The 24 valve is louder outside, but driving it over long distances is alright, while the 97 drives me nuts. The 97 has 4. 10s while the 99 has 3. 55s, so that probably part of it. But between the seats and the noise, it gives me a headache.
