I am trying to determine what the actual differences were between a California 99 24 valve and a non-Cal one?

Here is why I am asking: if someone had an ECM from a 99 cali and used a smarty which would overwrite the stock programing, would the replacement programing be the 49 state? Or is there even any difference?

At one time I recall I heard the only difference was a sticker, but I can't find that info now to verify it. And as I think about it, then wouldn't Dodge have just made them all California OK?

Thanks,

-Vic

Vic,

There's definitely a difference in the programming between the Federal and California ECM's.

Now I have absolutely no idea what that difference is, but I presume it's designed to change the engine emissions just enough to comply with CARB requirements.

Best regards,

John L.

I see there is a different part number for Federal and Californina.

Bob- that sounds like a great solution to me and an excuse to finally get a smarty. I'll give you a call after the holidays (assuming Mrs. Claus doesn't empty the piggy bank)
