Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Difference between NP 241HD AND NP 271! (w/pics)

wow thats quite a difference... what are ya gonna do about the offset on it there? and how much did it cost ya, cant be cheap...

I was told by a transfer case shop 2 years ago that the 241dhd was a stronger unit. The chains supposed to be stronger. By the pic you can visually see that the shaft and chain would be longer in the 271, maybe thats a weakpoint? I never broke either so i can't say...

well we got it done today and well F8LDOSE does bring up a good point about maybe being weaker by being longer i broke my 241hd early this season and repaired it and it has gone out again so thats why i did this swap and this 06 pulling season my truck will see a lot more pulling as you can tell there is more meat holding on the 271 also i had to upgrade my rear drive line to a series 1480 from the stock 1410 the 1480 is what is running in the 05's and also use the slip yoke from an 05 i might be posting a price sheet of this swap in my readers rigs if thats ok with the tdr admin. (if not please let me know) for others who want to know about it but i once was rich now i am poor but thats what we do for the love of the sport



tp0d the offset wasn't that bad and it barley misses the side of the frame and cross member close fit i also had to bend the fuel lines a little for clearance purposes
