Trans popping out of Drive

I see a transmission advertized (used) as out of a Chevy. I know that GM used these as well. Would there be any difference? I presume that the bellhousing to transmission bolt holes are standard? I was thinking of using this in my '66 Chevy 4x4, which has a divorced transfer case. Then I got to wondering about the input shaft spline for the clutch. If I remember right chevy used a 10 spline shaft on the older stuff. I don't know what the 90's and up are like. Anyone know? If this doesn't work I will have it for a spare for the Dodge.

Thanks...

The input shaft on a chevy is 1 1/8" dia, 10 spline with a pilot tip of . 590" dia. The heavy duty version used with the CTD has a 1 1\4" dia shaft, 10 spline, with a pilot tip of . 750" dia. The input shaft are interchangeable between the two.

I just checked one iv'e had for years sitting in shop. All aluminum, bell is cast onto trans. 10 spline, hyd clutch on passenger side. Got it at a swap meet from GM mechanic. He called it a throw away trans as dealers just replace, don't rebuild. Farmer friend uses them in 89 an up trucks, but likes cast iron 5 spd better as they have a granny 1st gear. Only thing good as far as I am concerned is they shift nice an are 5 spd. Don't see anything in commmon with Dodge CTD Getrag.

I have a GM cast iron 5 spd direct out of a 70,s ? 2 ton that uses the 66 type bell and starter. Had planned to use in a gasser for towing. Now with CTD I need OD. Will

Keep in mind that Getrag didnt just make the Ram CTD trannies. You need to get the numbers behing the "Getrag. " I. E. 360, or what have you.

Daniel you raise a good point, and one I cannot answer. I will find out. I just assumed that a Getrag 5 speed would be the same... . Ha Ha on me.

Thanks

Type "Getrag" into an ebay search (no make, just the keyword) and you get lots of results for foreign vehicles. I cant remember which ones offhand.

The Chevy Getrag HM290 5spd was used in the light duty small block trucks from about 88-95, then they went to the NV3500. They are an all aluminum case and very simular with some parts interchangeable.

The big block heavy duty trucks used the NV4500.
