Difference In Mileage 48re vs. 6 speed

I am just curious on how everyones mileage is differing or if anyone one knows how much of a difference there is in mileage between a AUTO(48re)vs. MANUAL(6 speed). 3rd Gens only... . PLEASE

Probably if the 6spd is driven very easy, it would do very slightly better in town because of direct drive... since they both lockup and both have very close final ratio (I think the auto is slightly better), probably about the same on the highway.

IMO, it will be so varied across the board, you probably won't see any real trend, unless based on rear end ratio.

If it makes any difference, I know these are 2nd gens, my dad's 5spd is more consistant at 21mpg, but my auto got around 19mpg and up to 26mpg on the highway.

steved

auto

floor it on the freeway at 70+: about 15

easy on the freeway 70+: about 16

easy on the hiway 55-65: Don't really know but over head at about 2mpg high has got to 22

Go easy on the go pedal and keep the speeds around 5-10 PSI boost, kick back and watch the scenry go by

I get around 20 commuting around town. See sig for details. The bigger differrence would come from 2WD vs 4WD than the transmission.

19+ 50/50.

17 in town

20 hiway under 75

new crank position sensor :-laf

2mpg better than old cps. Oo.

I just drove my sons 03 from CA to SC, just under 2800 miles and hand calculated the tanks. When I sold him the 03 he did the level kit and 35's with 3. 73's and his mileage took a dump.

Out on the highway is another story, 35's and 3. 73's allow for 75 mph while keeping rpm's under 2k. This produced 18. 5 with the VA C3. 1 off, 19. 0 on level 2 and 19. 3 on level 3.

His is the CA SO 4x4 QC SB 48re. There were 3 of us with about 400 lbs in the bed.

I found those numbers interesting. I think that the higher pressure is doing 2 things-

1) Is you back off the throttle for the same speed which most likely reduces the duration request to the ecm.

2) The added pressure is filling the cylinder sooner giving an advanced timing effect.

Keeping the R's under 2k should get you the best mpg so manual vs auto is going to depend on where you drive. The auto's o/d is slightly taller than 6th or 5th on the sticks buts that only gonna shine while the TC is locked in o/d.
