Just what is the difference in the rear axle in the SRW & dually.

I know it is a dumb question but could find no one at our local dealer that could really give me a good answer. I always thought the dually had two sets of bearings in the hub.

The reason I ask is we are thinking about going back to a pickup camper and it is my understanding that the large 11. 5 footers w/slide should only be on a dually.

I don't think there is any difference between 3500 dually and 3500 srw rear end assemblies except for the obvious, the dual rear wheels and, perhaps, aux springs. .

I would strongly agree with the advice to only carry a heavy slide-in on a drw truck.

That size slide-in-camper actually requires a 4500 DRW aka a Class 4 according to my RV Consumer Group Guide.

My 11'-3" Lance Camper (now sold) did require a Class 4 truck under it, however my 3500 DRW handled the load just fine. This is based on many long trips including an 11K mile round trip to Alaska.

The SRW and DRW 3500 axles and housing are different length's. I just converted my 2500 to a dually.
