I am looking at the new SRW 3500 vs the 2500 with the HO and new 48RE. Besides the obvious beefed-up suspension, what are the other physical differences between these new trucks? Thanks in advance.

the big difference is the larger rear axle

2500- 10. 5 inch gear

3500- 11. 5 inch gear

BUT, rumor has it the the 2500 WILL get the 11. 5 inch gear IF you get the HO engine...

hmm ?

one more the difference... ego!

The 3/4 already has the larger diff with the HO. The suspension and driveline are all the same between the two with a HO except for the overload springs on the 3500. The 3500 has larger pistons in the rear calipers and roof marker lights are standard rather than an option. Thats it.

And the increased GVWR. With the 3500 SRW you can just about haul an self-contained camper if you are very careful with the model you get and the supplies and people you add. With the 3500 DRW you can haul the big ones. With the 2500, it gets difficult to find a camper that has full features, some extra load capacity for "stuff" and people, and still be within the GVWR. If all you want to do is tow, the 2500 does it. If you need to haul a bed load, or you want that option for the future, the 3500 will keep that legal.

I figured the increased gross was fairly obvious. In my neck of the woods it costs an extra 25 bucks to register the 3500 and insurance is slightly higher as well. I dont recall any more how much extra the entry fee is for the 1 ton, seems like it only being 400 or so. There are quite a few people on here like me that only needed the 3/4 but went with the 1 ton since there is so little penalty to do so. Extra capacity with no ride penalty? It was a no brainer for me.

Laws very in every state. Some states allow lift by GVW. Since a 3500's GVW is probably more than a 2500, in theory by some of these magical laws in some states you can lift it higher.

Thats the case in UT, and why my reverse axle landcruiser is "illegal". Whatever, i tow it to moab anyways.

They don't care how high you jack it around here. Vehicle height is measured at the bumper. So when you jack one up you build drop bumpers.
