I called Cummins NW today to get a price for a new lift pump, and was asked for a serial number on the engine. According to the guy I was talking to there are a great number of variations for the lift pump. Different flow, pressure, and fitting specs.

Has anyone ever gone to the trouble of trying to find a "stock" pump that has higher flow, and pressure specs than what is normally found in the Dodge application?

lift pump varieties

Evan Beck - where are you? What do the 8. 3's use in RV applications, and would they work on our "little" engines? Or are there higher flow versions used in RV's that use a 5. 9 - at a higher setting than our Dodge's???? Good question! Ray

Yes I've researched it - the guy at Cummins NW was wrong. All of the ISB's use the same lift pump - same specs too. The only difference between some of the pumps is the style of connector on the wiring harness. That's one of the reasons for the latest rev pump - that pump will fit on any of the trucks, you just may or may not have to use the pigtail. There are different lift pumps out there because they've been revised MANY times. The 8. 3 uses a completely different style lift pump with 2 inputs and 2 outputs even - won't work.

See I knew I could get an answer...

Sort of like when you go to Napa for an air filter and they monkey asks if it's a 2X4 vs 4X4 like it matters any.

pumps

my 8. 3 in my rolling redneck residence (92 FL70 chassis) has a mechanical pump. i know--i just replaced it--to the tune of $165. at least it in no way resembles the lift pump on my new 24v. the 8. 3 pump surely didn't look like $165 to me--simple mechanical pump with a primer lever... ... .
