Hi all,

I have had my K&N 0880 filter for 2 full years now, and have had no problems with it. However, one thing that I know I like better

about the AFE filters is the end of the AFE filter is also filter area, as opposed to the solid end on my K&N. So, I am interested in

what the benefits would be if I were to switch over to an AFE.

I do NOT want the full MegaCannon setup, as I don't want or need their heat shield (I have an exhaust manifold blanket), or all

that junk in my way under my hood. I would just want an AFE filter.

So, my question is, for those who have run both AFE and K&N air filters - is there any difference in EGTs or anything else you've

noticed between these two brands? I just checked the AFE web site, and they rate their filters at 850 cfm, where as my K&N is

rated at 1350 cfm if I remember correctly... . If these numbers are anywhere near true, then my obvious conclusion would be that

the AFE is more restrictive, and therefore *might* cause EGTs to be a bit higher than the K&N. Of course my HX40 is only a 700 -

800 cfm turbo I think... so maybe this is really no real concern afterall.

Thanks for the input.

Hey Tom.....

I am unable to say if the AFE Cannon filter will absolutely outflow the K&N. But, I've had both filters, and if you laid the AFE next to the K&N, there's no way you'd ever think the claimed cfm flow rates were accurate when you compare filtering areas. I think the K&N claim is overstated. I sure don't see how it could flow 37% more based on filtering area. The AFe has a LOT more filtering area, especially with the open end. The AFe pleats are also a little deeper.

My AFe has the heat shield and went on with an ATS manifold and Piers Nasty Nine HY 35 at the same time. The combo of all three of these components dropped my egt's by ~150 degrees, but I think most of the credit goes to the Nasty. And, my bombs are certaintly not in your league.

All of this and $1. 20 will get you a cup of Starbucks ;)

Hi Joe :)

Wow... so Starbucks is only $1. 20 a cup up there where it all started, huh?? hmmmm... may have to stop in sometime. It's a wee bit more here in the state of CA... ... :p hehehe

The filter in the Mega Cannon is the highest flowing filter available as a "bolt on". The difference in the numbers is due to the difference in the height of the column of water at which the measurements are made. Joe Donnely did a nice write up on this a couple magazines ago...

Starbucks is

more in CA due to en-viro-mental-ist desires to filter everything.

Wonder what the FRAM is flowing in mine (zero at the moment tho) as it the CA3684 (me thinks - its about 6" round and about 10") with a 4" opening on one end. There are 2 that are similar but for length and dia. # is off top of head so may be wrong, will correct if I geta chance to look it up. But when I put it on my oil samples went done on silly and the EGT's seem to drop a little (about 1-200 at wot, and less at normal range).

Anyhows this me 0. 015$ worth ;o)

SOTSU!! (temp down - we hope)
