I finally went by the Cummins place instead of the dealer for oil filters today. Almost half price, just as I've been told many times.

The guy there asked me if it was early or late 2002? I didn't know, I thought it was late since I bought it in September. Turns out it was early 2002. He said there was a different filter mounting base. The early filter was about 2. 00 cheaper also.

The Stratapore number was LF 3894. He didn't have as many as I needed, so one was a regular Fleetguard filter, non-Stratapore, LF 3349.

I'm asking if this is true since I've never heard it before and the dealer has never asked. Was he talking about the '03 common rail engine? He knew it was the old body style.

The "standard" filter PN they gave me was LF 3349, not LF 3959. That's where my new confusion is.

Oh well, it probably doesn't matter, right.
