This may seem totally nuts. But I like how quite my truck is most of the time and noise is the only thing keeping me from putting a aftermarket system. I know there are some free'er flowing mufflers out there that are not that loud, but I had this totally crazy idea in my head and wondered if any has ever tried it?

Has anyone ever thought about putting a "remote selectable" exhaust cut out just before the muffler on a stock truck? I know this would be totally loud but if you only had to use it for those brief moments for when you need to cool things down... Or get real high tech and place a relay that would kick it opened at a certain EGT???

Anyone see any reason this would not work???

Thanks in advance,

Dave

I had a cut-out on my 98 camaro ss. I would be sitting at a light just minding my business when some foreign car would come up and rev at me. I'd press the button and the car would dump out of the headers. It would shut them up pretty quick. I bought mine off of www.ls1.com but I'm not sure who would make one for our size exhaust.

just put a cutout that has an air cylinder opening the butterfly valve [if it is that type] and spring load it to open at about 20psi and run a line off your intake to feed it. the boost builds, and the valve opens... crusing around low boost valve won't open

You could do a silent choice like they have on boats i think that is probably the only way you could get a big enough one to fit our exhaust.

KevinO; hit the nail on the head, I am pretty sure that a cut out from a Big block boat motor would be correct size. I am surprized no one has done it, or it didn't work well and they just haven't had time to chime in... . ???

Sure does seem like a fairly decent solution for guys like me that don't want to wake the neighbors up, yet wants to drop some ETG's on heavy pulls or hard burst... I am just not sure that if the ETG's started building if they would be able to come back down (or keep from raising) with this. Also it would keep the factory torque in check at lower RPM's, and would only need to open at higher rpm's (when the torque band would be alive and kicking) Oo.

I guess I will look into this a little more and see if there is anything (size wise) that would fit the bill.

Manganos; didn't the f-bodys have a huge single pipe that went onto the muffler then duals??? Do you know what size that pre-muffler pipe was???

Thanks all (for the input)

Dave

FDavid thanks;

@#$@# once again, "always the brides maid, but never the bride" :rolleyes: I guess I'm not the first, now if some one would make a simple bolt on kit... I bet they would sell like hot cakes...

For now I am off to crawl under the truck and see where I can place this little guy... . Oo. Maybe try and figure out a way to make a dump pipe in front of the rear tire.

Thanks again,

Dave
