Different door seals on later production 05s?

I was wondering if anyone out there knows an easy way to tell if you have the old or the new door seals. If you're unlucky and have the older ones, what will that mean... leaks, wind noise? Finally, if you do have the older ones, is there any way to get the new ones?

You will know by looking at where the door makes contact with the rubber-foam body seal. Mine is ripping and will need to be taken in to the dealer... .

Ok... . this is an 05 made in March 2005 and with about 3000 miles on it.

I've had a 04. 5 with the old seals, and two new 05's with the new seals. There is no visible difference between them all. They are all tearing. And the dealer sent me new seals and they are the same.

Just checked my drivers side door seal in my 05' and its starting to show signs of wear. I might just apply a light coat of grease on the contact area and live with it .

After seeing the pics of the porter and daully dissaster i fear going to the dealer.

door gasket ripping apart on both sides today, and i was going to do a post today

and first thing i find is this post. exactly the same problem i am having with the door

gasket. i asume this is under warranty, but the thing is it will happen again.

I've had my replace several times, they rip again and again, regardless of the new and improved seal. . (it appears to be the same). Door seals are a lot cheaper for dodge for those that care, than it is to redo the door design and the potential fix for all affected...

Not much needs to be done .

Just make arrangements with the dealer to have the seals replaced . Hopefully the replacements are an improvement over the originals.

I see no room for improvement with the seals though.

Look at the clearance or lack of between the doors edge and the seal .

I will try to lube it hoping that it wont bind and hopefuly sparing any further damage .

For lubing door gaskets, I'd use silicone spray rather than any type of grease or oil. It comes in an aerosol can like spray paint. It also helps keep ice from sticking the doors shut in the winter (for us up here in the north anyway - take it from a New Englanda )

I'm on my third set of door seals. This last set is of a different design they do not rub as bad as the first two sets. It looks as if they did away with the outer part of the seal that rubbed so bad. Have a relative that just purchased an 05. Dodge has flattened out the seal where it came in contact with the doors. The seals are flattened out about six inches in the areas that rubbed on the front doors. The doors clear where the seals were being rubbed now.

Great idea mdepot , I almost used grease.

I have no experience with ice or snow just heat, bugs and hurricanes .

Will treat the rubber seals with silicone tommorow.

If anybody has installed a revised/upgraded version of these seals please post a pic.

I would also like to know if any problems are noted such as noise, leaks and most importantly has the problem been corrected.

I have been using the silicone spray from day one on both doors I spray it on rubber molding and the underside of door where it contacts the molding.



Question will the silicone overspray affect the paint or effect waxing the area ??

i don't know about the waxing part, but it really shouldn't effect the paint, but a cardboard shield to prevent overspray might be useful there...
