Hey, I'm in need of a flywheel for my 95 12V and all I can find (today anyway) is on from a 99. According to Hollander interchange there is a change in change up in 98. Does anyone know what this change is? Is it something minor like a bolt pattern difference for the pressure plate or something major like a bolt pattern change for the crank shaft or a balance issue? If it's just the clutch pattern that's different, I have access to a mill and can get it redrilled today and in the truck asap. Does anyone know?

Freak,

I was just reading in issue 49 the other day an article about clutches by Joe Donnelly and I think he said that the "bowl" in the center of the flywheel where it bolts to the crank is different. I can't remember if it was larger or smaller. I'm at work right now and can't get to my issue 49. I'll try to post again when I get home.

If it's larger no issue right? And if it's smaller it seems like you have access to machine shop equipment and can increase the size to your existing fwheel. If that's the only difference. Freak do you have issue 49? PM me if not

bowl bigger or smaller... . so do you mean that the bolt pattern is different or just a difference in the casting?

I have a 95 (should be a 12. 25" clutch) but I have 13" because I'm running a NV5600 with the 1 3/8" input. Bigger I can use, smaller I can make work but if the change is balance or crank bolt pattern then I'm screwed!

I just joined so I don't have any of the issues yet.

Cory,

The bolt pattern is the same. Here's the quote from the article:

If you have a '98-'03, five-speed Ram or six-speed Ram, the flywheel has a 7. 75" diameter inner pocket where the flywheel-to-crankshaft bolts are found. The '94-'97 flywheel, part number 3923099, has a 6. 75" pocket because the older style original equipment LuK (12. 3" clutch) hub was smaller than is used in the '98-up Rams. The lining material of the 12. 3" clutch will fully bear on either style of flywheel. The outermost part of the hub on a 1. 25" X 10 spline, five-speed disk will not be in the "pocket" area of the early flywheel ('94-'97). However, the clutch facing would have to wear out completely to the rivets before the steel hub could contact the surface of the flywheel. The six-speed 1. 38" X 10 spline disks have much larger hubs and won't work with the early flywheel.
