I'm currently using a slider hitch with my short bed Ram. It's a Reese. On a couple of occasions it didn't lock into place in the manuevering position. I'm thinking about getting a hitch that can adjust automatically. What would be a good brand? Do they work? Are they any more difficult to hook up to? Would the rails that are installed for the slider hitch be usable or would I have to go through a new install for them as well?

I know there is a pin box that can adjust but the RV dealer said that they can wear out the pin box? Any experience?

Thanks in advance.

I have a Pullrite superglide automatic sliding hitch that I highly recommend. I have had it for five years with no problems at all. The mounts that I have sandwich the frame below the bed and then come through the bed on four pins that mount to the frame for the fifth wheel hitch. Everything from inside the bed can be removed leaving you with only four small holes in the bed for full accessibility to the bed. The research that I did five years ago did not turn up any other automatic sliding hitches and I have not heard of any further developments in the interim. The superglide is expensive but worth it. Check around and you may be able to find a used one as they have been available for quite a while now. The bed undermount kit is available separately so that you should be able to match any used superglide to any truck with the correct mounting kit.

I have the same hitch, the only negative I can see is it uses a capture plate and others can not tow you 5er for you without a pullrite, you can not hitch at an angle of more then I belive 15 degrees. but other then that they do everything for you while you drive. Then new ones need not grease on the sliders. and they make one that will fit your existing rails so no new under mount needed ED
