Scales in the Pensacola area?

need help picking clutch!

My friend just bought an 06 quad, long, 6spd 4x4 to tote his 05 lance lite 8 footer. I have been tasked with wiring/install duties. Question is, where are you guys getting power and back-up lights etc for the camper plug in the bed? I was hoping there was a "T" harness that would break out the wires from the trailer connector, but that seems to be a no-go. School me. Thanks

Camper hook up

Tkingsbury, I made a harness by purchasing a trailer plug with the cable already attached for the 7 pin truck connector and installed a female connector on the end of it accepting the male plug from the camper that way you do not have to cut any holes in the bed I would plug in the cable into the truck and load the camper and before lowering the camper I would plug the camper into the female connector and then lower the camper in place (ran the cable along side of the camper) this was on a 94 CTD and a 11. 5 ft Caribou slide in camper went to Alaska 2 times from Texas with no problems. Good luck. Mike

Same here. On my old truck I had the camper place drill the hole in the truck and tap into the wire harness w/ isolater etc.

On my new truck I purchased the cord already made up. Just plugs into the 7 pin on the truck and the plug on the camper. Just run the cord alongside the camper next to the wheelwell. We run 4 optima batts on the camper and rarely stay more than 3 nights at a time, so I don't worry about draining the truck batteries down to the point where the truck won't start. If we stay longer than 3 days I unplug the cord at the reciever and run just on the camper batteries, plugging back in after starting the truck when leaving.

Ditto for my camper. I just run a cord from the 7 pin trailer plug in the back, run it in the bed and plug it into the camper. Simple and effective as long as you have the trailer package. The camper dealer made up the cord for me when I bought the camper.

Plugging into the trailer plug is a no-go as we are going to be towing my Samurai on a trailer wherever we go. I was thinking about putting a j-box under the rear on the frame and running the harness in and breaking out whatever wires needed for the camper. Any other suggestions, plug-n-play would really be nice, but it looks like we might be screwed.

I had a splitter made for when we tow our ski boat. Plugs into the reciever and has two pony tails for camper and boat. A good camper store, or trailer shop should be able to make one up for ya.

Reese makes a T plug adaptor that you place between the Factory 7 plug in the bumper. See this thread. Plug in Bed

I followed the instructions from that thread and worked like a champ!

Doesnt Dodge provide a T adaptor for 5th wheel instalation under the bed somewhere? I'm sure they did on my 97, although I never checked (never got a 5th wheel). THere were two removable oval shaped plastic plugs in the floor of my bed that I was told were there to wire through to the T that was included when you get the factory tow package.
