Before I removed my starter (89 engine) I searched around the forums and three starter mounting bolts were mentioned.
When I got to the actual job there were two bolts, one top one below. The flange had only two holes, so it isn't like a bolt fell out.
Were the starters changed after 89, or is mine some special situation soloution that was added. The bell housing has a third hole.
This engine is on a freight liner chassis.

( I removed it because the starter would grind from time to time, and I figured the contact points were bad but heavy contact points were there when I opened it up.
The last person to work on the starter had put a ground cable connection between the starter flange and the bell housing and I think/hope that may have misaligned the starter caused the grinding. )
