As long as I don't go into 4 wheel drive, is it ok to run with 285/70R17 on front and 235/80R17 on rear? It's only about a 1" diameter difference. I'm thinking it won't cause any binding issues unless I tried to go into 4 wheel drive. Thanks for your inputs... -Trey
I have 4 almost new 285/70R17 tires. (pre dually swap). With the dually wheels, I got 4 usable 235s. Here lies my delema... 1) buy two new 235s,
(~$520. 00), for the front and lose the use of the 285s. 2) buy two new 285s, (~$570. 00), for the extra two rears (these would need spacers) and lose the use of the 235s. 3) buy nothing and use the 235s on the rear duals, with the 285s on the front until the 235s need replaced, thus saving a little cash. #3 seems to be the most cost effective, unless it would cause a problem somewhere, in which case I would probably buy the 235s (trade-in the 285s). I'd like to think of myself as "frugal" not cheap. Opinions? Thanks, Trey
I've been running 265's on the front and 285's 0n the rear of my 2x4 truck for about 20K miles - no ABS or other issues of any sort. Dunno why it would be an issue on a 4x4, as long as it's kept out of 4WD...
Come to find out, after further investigation... The tires that came on the dually wheels were not that great. I opted to replace the four rears at $1000. 00. I think I'll stick with the slightly larger tires up front until they wear out. Thanks for all the inputs... -Trey
I would think your front wheel speed sensors would read differently than the rear speed sensor and cause a fault in the ABS system. If you had a 2 wheel drive and rear wheel ABS only you would probably be ok. I do not know for sure that this would happen but it sure sounds right.
