I'm installing a MagTec Differential cover on my 2001, 2500,

2WD, six-speed with the HO Cummins. Increases the lube

capacity to almost 7. 5 quarts. I'm refilling the rear-end with

Redline, 80w-140 gear lube. Owner's manual calls for that heavy

a synthetic when pulling a load, as I am. Two questions:

The instructions on the Redline jug and the salesman both say

that it is NOT necessary to add a friction modifier for the clutches.

I did have to add two bottles of the stuff before, when using

Mobil 1, 80w-140. Opinions please. Also, to install the larger

MagTec, I had to move the sway bar out by installing a spacer

on the right side and redrilling the holes on the left. Do you think moving the sway bar would have a negative affect on it's operation? Thanks for the help.

As far as the oil is concerned, some of the gear oils already have the friction additive mixed in. I think Royal Purple is another that has it in the oil.

Its in there

I too just change fluids out, front to back all Redline. For the rear diff I went with the 75w/140 which has the posi additive already to go. The 75w/140ns is a little different, not sure whats in that cocktail.

Red Line 75W-140NS does NOT have ANY friction modifier added to that particular axle lubricant.

Red Line 85W-140 does have friction modifier added.

Both the Amsoil Series 2000 75W-90 and the 75W-140 axle lubricants have friction modifier added.

Additional friction modifier may have to be added to properly "tune" the clutch characteristics of the LSD.
