I'm getting ready to do my first differential fluid change ( personal ). The diff fluid has already been changed once by the dealer, and I want to start doing it myself ( to save $80 per diff ).
Now it seems to be pretty strait forward and easy. Just loosen the ten bolts on the diff and drain the fluid. Then completely remove cover and clean off all RTV. Then reapply RTV and replace cover and tighten bolts. Then fill using the fill hole till the fluid level reaches the fill hole. I do not have LSD so I will not have to add friction modifier. Also remove the vacuum line on front diff then of course put it back on when done.
Is there anything I have missed ?
Is there any sort of cleaning or flushing procedure to follow if I decide to switch to Amsoil Synthetic ?
Any tips to make it easier for a first timer with very limited experience ?
Is there a torq spec on the the diff bolts ?
What type of RTV is best ?
Sorry for so many ??'s but I want to be ready !!
TIA
Jeff
