2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Differential Leak.

I know there is tons of threads on what I am about to ask if I just searched the database, but for some reason my comp isn't allowing me to search. So I figured I would go ahead and post my question until I can do some more searching. My Dana 70(at leas I think its a 70, look at my sig), seems to be leaking right where the ujoint enters the pumpkin. Could it be the pinion seal? Have any of you had this leakage problem like mine? any help would be great, thanks.

You're truck is an auto 2500 I'm sure it's a 70.



Sounds like the pinion seal - piece of cake to change - got a manual?



Never had problem on mine but, if it's like any other - drop shaft, remove big nut (not sure size), remove the yoke (make sure you mark the tip of the shaft after you remove big nut and the yoke to insure correct alignment - not sure if shaft has one large spline for alignment or not?) pop out the old seal - pop in the new one. Be carefull tapping in the new one if you don't have a socket that's bigger than the rubber seal or an installation tool. Once it's home put it back together.



Souldn't be too bad - check the shop manual before doing anything (or get one/let me know - I can look in mine to see if it's more of a job than I think).

Darn, I guess putting off buying the shop manuel bit me in the behind. I've been wanting to get one for a while but never seem to get around to it. The fluid doesn't leak to bad out of it, the fluid level in the diff. is still the same as it was when I changed the diff. fluiid 3k miles ago. Thanks for the info Joe Mc, I appreciate it.

Geno's has them both on dvd and hard copy.

I'd go w/DVD if I didn't already have the hard book. It's a toss though - as far as where you want your greasy fingerprints - keyboard or pages in the manual. Another thought - a manual is better to have on hand in the middle of no mans land then the CD and no PC . . . 6 of one - 1/2 dozen of another . . .
