On my 2003 Quad 4X4, the build sheet says that it has a Anti-spin diff. But it spins one wheel only. Do any of you know what numbers on the diff. identify it as a anti-spin? Do you know of anyone who has had trouble out of their AM gear Diff? :

After doing a search, I found that the so called LSD on the new Dodge AAM Diff. applies torque only if both wheel can sense load. So in other words, with one wheel off of the ground, the Diff. acts like it is open. Of course ice on pavement would behave the same way as one wheel not touching the ground.

What a big POS! Give me a old fashioned clutch type anti-spin any day. What kind of crack head would have installed a sports car Diff. into a truck designed to work, drive in mud, accross ditches and ice. How I learned the worthlessness of the new Diff. was, while crossing a ditch, one wheel stops touching, and no move. This is the same ditch that I cross with my 200,000 mile anti-spin in the old truck with no problem.

Guess I will be searching for old chey's diff. to replace this junk.

POS? Well, all I can tell you is I have owned both a Dana (93 CTD) and now the AAM LSD's.

The AAM works much quicker and smoother than the Dana and it has never failed to engage when I've needed it to.

You may have been able to get the axles to lock up if you had applied just a bit of brake pressure. This creates the small drag needed to get things locked up in situations like that.

From what the searches revealed, it was designed to track straight under power, yet allow easy corning while under slight decell. Could be wrong.

I will only point this out... until last weekend, I was completely with LMcCary in calling the trac-rite a POS... it ALWAYS acted like an open diff and never spun posi... and that was for the entire 90+K miles I have on it...

Then last weekend I had a load of wood on the trailer (well over 10k) and without even horsing on it (went into 2nd at an idle), the rear diff went "SNAP!" really loud and my LSD has worked perfectly ever since... one wheel starts spinning and it smoothly starts spinning the other...

Figure that one out...

The only thing I can figure is that the dog on one side or the other was hung up and it took that load to break it free...

I bought my truck in Montana and drove it through 2 Montana winters... the AAM LSD works like a champ! I drove in some serious weather, on and off road and this thing kept me moving. I even had the left rear unloaded (stump under the axel) and a little pressure on the E-brake moved me off the stump... I really like this LSD!
