I have noticed what I believe to be too much slack in the drive train. On closer inspection there seems to be additional play in the differential. I also noticed the last two times I checked the differential oil to have a considerable amount of metal sludge on the plug. The oil looks fine and has 33,000 miles on it. Has anyone had the same experience?

Thanks

If you have not changed the oil, then its 15K+ over due, per the maintenance schedule. Dodge recommends 15K mile intervals and can deny warranty. I have to say I do mine at 20K though, and my Dealer is OK with that, but that was before Bankruptcy so who knows. Now the oil used will bring arguments for so many different brands, but I just let the Dealer steal money from me and use MOPAR. I get free oil changes so I can justify it.

I have read that the 15k interval is only for severe service (ie. heavy towing or anything that meets schedule B). I have looked through my maintenance log book and do not see anything about changing diff lube at 15k, or at any interval for that matter. Why wouldn't they list in in the maintenance log book that comes with the truck?

Ya, it is the "B" schedule and its there, I had the service writer point it out. But I don't know why you would buy a HD diesel truck and not at some point use it for that purpose. I know they are nice trucks, but a gasser would have been cheaper and $5600. 00 at the old CTD option price would of paid for a lot of other things. I'm not being a smart a*s, just curious. :)

I only tow occasionally, but the main reason I bought a diesel was longevity. I want to be driving this truck 15 years from now. Also gets better mileage and when I finally get my 5'er I will have a reliable hauler.

I Changed the oil at 17,000 and do some towing so I watch things very close.
Thanks for the input.

Took it in yesterday and had the dealer drop the cover and check it out. It checked out OK - no problems. Will watch it closely.
