Archived Difficult Starting

need help bad , truck will not start (sometimes) when i turn the ignition all i hear is "CLICK CLICK" , i replaced the batteries and connections thinking that was the problem (unfortunately that was not the problem) now i am thinking would it possibly be the starter or ignition anyone out there who experienced the same problem , i hope its not fuel related ie pumps etc. any help or comments is greatly appreciated

Sorri you dont have any answers, but you posted this in the Archives and not the active 911.



To continue on your question, info on truck would help. From previous readings it could be the contacts in the starter. A local shop that rebuilds starters MAY have the contacts. You can also search on LARRY B. He sells complete starters and an upgrade contact set (heavy duty). He has them for all years thru 03 (not sure on the 04's yet).



If your truck is old enuff, this may be the cause. The contact on one side "burns" or arc's and then it wont work. Ck Larrys web site for more info or call him after you find him thru a search (or he may be your current "popup" at the top of the screen.

thanks to everyone who responded , just ordered the kit from Larry b. hopefully they won't be too difficult to install.

thanks for the heads up regarding the posting Will know better in the future.

by the way truck is a 1999 CTD 4X4 SHORT BED QUAD CAB . I JUST LOVE THE SOUND AND SMELL OF DIESELS .
