Just wondering if anyone has any advice. I will list my problems and tell you what my plan is for tommorow.

1) Idles is a little low. When I put my truck in gear the idle gets real rough, like it is surging. The RPM's go from about 600-750 continously. At idle in N it is around 850. Could this be a overflow valve problem? It does this when engine is warm just after starting but quits surging after driving around for a couple of minutes. I will again be turning up the idle to a little over 900.

2)Slide TST#6 plate ahead. I had it back less than stock because when I installed my 370's and gov spring kit I was concerned about transmission life. Hopefully that is all solved now.

3) Maybe Piers secret governor lever adjustment. I think I can do it. One question about this though, when it says:

It is adjusted so the lever is flush with the bottom edge of the plate, and does not ride under the plate.

Where exactly is the bottom edge of the plate? I also have a #6 as shown in the illustration, but I do not adjust it to the outer most tip near the bottom do I? I am assuming I just go to the bottom of the plate where there is no real "tip" just the lowest rounded corner. Just checking... . http://www.piersdiesel.com/LeverAdj.htm

4) Afc needs to be adjusted. I was going to slide the housing all the way forward and adjust starwheel to my likes of smoke and low end response. Is there much more I can do? Right now at an idle in gear it smokes quite a bit and the smell is actually quite foul. The smoke is kinda greyish white.

5) I am having a little low end miss under light to moderate acceleration. Piers was mentioning delivery valves... ... ... Can any of my low end roughness be smoothed out by a governor spring adjustment? Click looser or tighter... .....

I want to try and do alot of these adjustments a few times by myself and with the help of others, before I give Piers a call to help me out. Half the fun is trying your own thing and seeing if it works. But I think I saved the e-mail Piers wrote me about all the free advice I need when I bought my 370's and gov springs!

:D Might have to take him up on it one day... ... ...

Low RPM Surging

I had the low RPM surging problem right after the installation of governor springs. Enterprise Engine backed off on the springs (I do not know how or how much) and significantly reduced the problem. I may end up having the springs adjusted a little more as my truck still surges a little at low RPM.

My truck would surge at low rpm just when loaded like letting out on the clutch or idling up a hill. One click looser on the gov. springs cured that. I think idle adjustment is required after loosing the springs.
